Cohesive Faculty Identity: Individual & Group Academic Portraiture

A streamlined two-day photographic production delivering unified individual faculty profile portraits and cohesive research group photography for institutional directories, symposia, and academic profiles.

Cohesive Faculty Identity: Individual & Group Academic Portraiture

The Challenge: Visual Cohesion Across Academic Departments

Large research institutes frequently struggle with inconsistent visual identity: disparate personal photos, outdated ID badges, and uneven image quality across department directories. The Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) required a clean, unified visual standard across its entire academic and administrative personnel.

The mandate focused strictly on two deliverables: professional individual profile portraits and cohesive group photographs for research chairs and administrative teams.

The Approach: Dual-Backdrop On-Site Studio & Guided Direction

Over an intensive two-day shoot, we built an efficient, multi-set studio setup directly on location:

  • Dual-Backdrop Versatility (White & Blue Sets): We operated two distinct lighting and backdrop setups simultaneously. Every researcher was photographed on both:
  1. Clean White Set: Minimalist, high-key portraits ideal for official university directories, formal press releases, and badge credentials.
  2. Deep Blue Set: A richer, high-contrast editorial tone suited for keynote introductions, grant consortium decks, award announcements, and personal profiles.
  • Situational Flexibility: Providing both options gave faculty members the freedom to choose the right visual tone depending on the context and publishing medium.
  • Comfort-Driven Direction: Hands-on posing guidance that helped scientists feel relaxed and confident in front of the lens, capturing authentic presence alongside academic authority.
  • Cohesive Group Compositions: Structured group portraits configured with balanced framing and dynamic positioning, reflecting team collaboration without feeling rigid.

The Outcome

  • Delivered a comprehensive institutional portrait library featuring dual-background individual headshots and group photos.
  • Provided researchers with versatile, publication-ready assets ready for institutional websites, grant proposals, conference programs, and media outreach.
